Kate Baxter earned her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy with specialized training in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University and her Bachelor of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Northridge.

Kate’s Art Therapy training provides her with an additional approach to traditional talk therapy techniques by introducing art as a way to communicate feelings, thoughts, emotions, and eventually help Clients visualize solutions and coping strategies. Kate has extensive training working with children in a variety of settings including schools, group therapy, individual therapy, and residential treatment centers. Kate is dedicated to joining with the child and their family to work towards understanding and resolving any struggles they might face.

Kate’s interests include working with children experiencing any challenges related to anxiety, depression, and the LGBTQ community. Kate is especially sensitive to adoption related cases, having been adopted herself, and enjoys helping children and families work together through the possible questions or challenges adoption can bring to a family’s dynamic.

In addition, Kate is currently the Director of the Preschool Program at Tom Sawyer Camps in Pasadena. Working in a summer camp setting as a counselor and director for over 6 years has provided her with a unique understanding of the importance of nature, play, movement, and art in a child’s development.
